Maybe it\u2019s because I associate them with hotels where you can make your own waffles for breakfast. So when I make them at home, it always feels like a special occasion.<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>These waffles would be perfect for a holiday or celebration, or any time you want breakfast to feel a little noteworthy. They are amazing topped with Cream Cheese Drizzle (recipe follows), but I also love them with just a drizzle of maple syrup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients (Serves 6)<\/strong><\/p><div id=\"afric-1634926070\" class=\"afric-inbody afric-entity-placement\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;text-align: center;\"><!-- \/21718337565\/AFW300 -->\r\n<div id='div-gpt-ad-1609524218907-0' style='width: 300px; height: 250px;'>\r\n  <script>\r\n    googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1609524218907-0'); });\r\n  <\/script>\r\n<\/div><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups all-purpose flour<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking soda<\/li>\n<li>1 teaspoon baking powder<\/li>\n<li>1\u20442 teaspoon table salt<\/li>\n<li>4 tablespoons (1\u20442 stick) unsalted butter, melted<\/li>\n<li>1\u20444 cup packed brown sugar<\/li>\n<li>3 large eggs, separated<\/li>\n<li>2 cups buttermilk<\/li>\n<li>1 1\u20442 tablespoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder<\/li>\n<li>1 tablespoon red liquid food coloring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Preheat the oven to 200<strong>\u00b0<\/strong>\u00a0F and preheat a waffle iron. Whisk the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl to combine.<\/li>\n<li>Combine the melted butter and brown sugar in a separate large bowl. Whisk in the egg\u2028yolks and buttermilk. Mix the cocoa powder and red food coloring in a small bowl to make a smooth paste, then whisk the paste into the butter mixture. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients just until moistened (the batter should be slightly lumpy).<\/li>\n<li>Beat the egg whites in a medium bowl with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Stir one-quarter of the egg whites into the batter to lighten it. Then fold in the remaining egg whites gently but thoroughly.<\/li>\n<li>Spray a waffle iron with nonstick cooking spray or brush with melted butter. Cook the waffles according to the manufacturer\u2019s instructions. As they\u2019re done, put them on a baking sheet and slide them into the oven to keep them warm while you cook the remaining waffles.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"left\"><strong>Cream Cheese Drizzle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>4 ounces cream cheese, softened<\/li>\n<li>\u00be cup confectioners\u2019 sugar<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd teaspoon vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>A pinch of table salt<\/li>\n<li>3 to 4 tablespoons milk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To make the cream cheese drizzle: Beat the cream cheese, confectioners\u2019 sugar, vanilla, and salt in a bowl.
