Award-winning designer,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidtlale.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Tlale<\/a>\u00a0(\u00a0<\/strong>@DAVIDTLALE<strong>)\u00a0<\/strong> who is the first South African to ever appear at New York Fashion Week.<\/p>\n<p>He began his career in fashion in 2003, after winning the \u201cElle New <a href=\"https:\/\/africafashionweek.com\/newyork\/media01\/2013\/09\/Africa-Fashion-Designers-at-New-York-Fashion-Week.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7972 lazyload\" alt=\"Africa Fashion Designers at New York Fashion Week\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/africafashionweek.com\/newyork\/media01\/2013\/09\/Africa-Fashion-Designers-at-New-York-Fashion-Week-300x300.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>Talent in South Africa\u201d competition. In 2008, he was voted \u201cMost Stylish Designer\u201d at the South African Style Awards. This will be Tlale second appearance at the NY Fashion Week.<\/p>\n<p>2. Zimbabwean Fashion designer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/africafashionweek.com\/newyork\/2013\/08\/nolcha-fashion-week-new-york-africa-fashion-designer-maita-marimo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maita Marimo<\/a>\u00a0( @maitamarimo )\u00a0was also showcasing at a New York Fashion Week event; \u00a0Nolcha Fashion Week which is now in its sixth year.<\/p>\n<p>This will be her first time showcasing her collection at Nolcha Fashion Week New York. Hailing from Mazowe, Zimbabwe, Marimo is not new to the fashion scene. She has had her designs showcased on a global platform through the various fashion shows she has been lucky enough to be a part of. These include, Zimbabwe Fashion Week, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa, where she got voted as Zimbabwe\u2019s Fashion Week Designer of The Year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kortomomolu.com\/store\/\" target=\"_blank\">. With the recent launch of her new online store<\/a>, \u00a0Liberian Designer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kortomomolu.com\/biography\/\" target=\"_blank\">Korto Momolu\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0( @KortoMomolu) and self-titled fashion line made her presence known on Sunday September 8th 2013. \u00a0Momolu (pronounced Cut \u2022 Toe \u2013 Mo \u2022 Mo \u2022 Lu) is a \u00a0fashion designer and stylist. \u00a0Momolu was born in Monrovia, Liberia and lived there until 1990 with her parents and siblings.\u00a0 They left due to civil war and settled in Canada where Momolu pursued her passion and studied fashion design at the L\u2019Academies des Couturiers Design Institute in Ottawa, Ontario.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/africafashionweek.com\/newyork\/media01\/2013\/09\/Africa-Fashion-Week-Designers-at-New-York-Fashion-Week-3.jpg\" rel=\"mfp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-7973 lazyload\" alt=\"Africa Fashion Week Designers at New York Fashion Week 3\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/africafashionweek.com\/newyork\/media01\/2013\/09\/Africa-Fashion-Week-Designers-at-New-York-Fashion-Week-3-1024x1024.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After working as an independent fashion designer and continuing her education at the renowned Parsons School of Design, Momolu followed her dreams and won a place on the 5th season of Bravo TV\u2019s hit show Project Runway.\u00a0 Throughout the show, Momolu stood out as a designer who embraced color and diversity and displayed such extraordinary talent that she was awarded the fan favorite prize.<\/p>\n<p>4. Kahindo Mateene, a designer based in Chicago, but originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who is the creator behind\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.modahnik.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">MODHANIK<\/a>\u00a0(<\/strong>\u00a0@Modahnik)\u00a0, a clothing line well-known for its mix of vibrant colors and bold prints. Mateene, who\u2019s well-traveled, gets her inspiration from the European culture and \u201cAvant Garde\u201d spirit of the Congolese culture.<\/p>\n<p>The Congolese designer, who appeared on Season 12 of the Project Runway, has been featured on runways in Los Angeles, Chicago, Johannesburg and New York.<\/p>\n<p>5. Nigerian sisters Darlene and Lizzy Okpo are the faces behind the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.williamokpo.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">William Okpo<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 ( @WilliamOkpo )\u00a0collection. The brand, name after their father, is designed for women who are not afraid to explore the combination of style and edge.
