Awuah from Ghana founded 54 Kingdoms in 2006 to best address the problem of cultural and ethnic disassociation by using fashion as a means to create cultural inclusion. The start-up clothing and apparel company has a mission of bringing the ideology of ethnicity, culture and fashion integration to a higher level by creating pieces tailored to the appeal of its consumers.<\/p>\n<p>Their motto, <i>Identity through Fashion<\/i>, is meant to empower individuals who uphold and recognize their Afrikan\/African ancestry and culture. \u201cThe heart of 54 Kingdoms\u2019 collection lies within the graphics; each design have a different significance to people based on their cultural heritage and ethnic background\u201d stated CEO Nana Poku.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, 54 Kingdoms was the first company to take the lead in branding Africa&#8217;s first ever FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010 by introducing a personalized collection that represents the six participating African countries.<\/p>\n<p>AFWNY is produced by Adiree \u00a0and includes runway shows hosting 21+ designers from various countries in Africa and those of the African Diaspora, exhibitions, and industry networking events.
