A New Kind of Japanese Fusion

For those that don’t already name Deola Sagoe, she is one of the leading Nigerian fashion designers in the industry.  She won the “Africa Designs” and the MNET/ Anglo Gold African designs 2000 awards, and has loyal famous fans such as Oprah Winfrey and Will Smith.  Her Fall 2011 collection titled “Ori Oke.”  The name of the collection is derived from the Japanese word “Shibori” and the Yoruba word “Aso-Oke,”  both words describe methods of creating the traditional cloth of the respective cultures.  The collection is a fusion of Japanese culture and Yoruba style of dress.  The collection features intricate details and strucutred origami-esque creations.
