Dallas Museum Tips their Hats to African Fashion

The Dallas Museum of Art has been showing their love for African fashion lately. The museum’s African art curator, Roslyn Walker, recently saw photos of the Jean-Paul Gaultier exhibit that will open mid-November and was inspired. She noted the similarities between his designs and the collections from Sub-Saharan African in the museum’s permanent collection and saw an opportunity. She added the new exhibit titled “African Headwear: Beyond Fashion” which showcases African headwear, everything from practical pieces with protective elements for warriors to the most regal crowns and headpieces to show great achievement. The exhibit features items from almost every country in Africa and will not only teach you a great deal, but looks extremely interesting.  This exhibit is sure to be a treat for the eyes and a great tribute to African fashion of the past and present.
