Africa's Top 5 | African Fashion Designers from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week AFRICA

AfricasTopFive

African Fashion International has done it again.  They put on another show that I regret missing!  During Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Africa (October 30th through November 2nd), designers from Senegal all the way to Mozambique presented their latest collections.  MBFWA 2013 included several talented African designers; here’s some of our favorite.

1.      David Tlale

As eager fashion moguls anticipated, the renowned David Tlale kicked the door open to his 10th anniversary showcase at MBFWA 2013 with an AMAZING performance by Joburg Ballet.  In collaboration with Vlisco, the designs consisted of graceful garment drape and exaggerated silhouettes that said David all over them.

2.      Duaba Serwa

After a successful showing at GLITZ Fashion Week, African designer Duaba Serwa stunned us again when it was her turn to release her new collection on the runway.  While Ford Model Millen Magese embodied the stage, Serwa’s chic designs crept on and off the runway, leaving you to want more.

3.        Kibonen NY

All the way from the Big City, Kibonen landed in South Africa with modern fashions that illuminated each model wearing them…loved the pieces.  We are VERY glad to have Kibonen as a client.

4.      Laurence Airline

When it comes to African fashion, one cannot go wrong with geometric print/detail.  This designer incorporates geometric designs with distinct tailored apparel (for men).  Laurence Airline reminds us that men are still fashionable when outside of suits.

5.      Bongiwe Walaza

This South African native won us over with ease!  We love how she used seasonal hues to create captivating designs.  I am sure that all on the first row were nodding their heads.
