One of the latest concerns in the fashion world right now is ethical fashion, and a lot of the hype is centered around Kenya. Designer Vivienne Westwood is one of the most recent prominent designers to venture into the world of ethical fashion with her handbags and with the launch of the line Ethical Fashion Africa. The initial three bags she created were revealed during Westwood’s Paris fashion show September 2010, and sold out almost immediately. They were made out of environmentally sustainable materials such as cotton canvas, woven plastic bags, and recycled brass made with the help of local beaders, printers, tailors, and metal workers in Nairobi. Westwood made her first official trip to Kenya last month to oversee the expansion the line is undergoing in Kenya and to find inspiration for future designs.
