Michele Obama Honors Leaders in Design

Yesterday, Michele Obama teamed up with Project Runway’s Tim Gunn to bring together the leaders and innovaters in design and honor the winners of the National Design Awards.  These awards not only include fashion designers, but designers of products, web design, and architecture.  Along with the plethora of renowned designers that were present at the luncheon in the State Room of the White House, fifteen students invited that have an interest in the area of design were invited to attend.  The First Lady has been wanting to create this link between young aspiring designers to the industry heads and now in the twelfth year of the awards she has made that happen.  Among one of the winners in the fashion design category was J. Mendel who is showing his new spring collection today at fashion week in NYC.  Obama cited the graphic designer Milton Glaser when she said, “Good design is good citizenship,” and we hope to see a lot more good citizenship coming from these creative minds to propel our society into the future.
