Africa's Top 5 | African Fashion Designers from GLITZ Fashion Week

Fashion weeks have emerged ALL around the world.  From New York to Japan, there are a series of events and or shows that take place over a week, giving cultures a platform to demonstrate what fashion means to them.  Participating in a fashion week is a big deal for designers; it gives them the opportunity to increase their brand awareness and make sales profits.

It doesn’t get better than clothing that comes from the place we all originated from. All fashions weeks are important, but African fashion weeks are particularly fascinating because one gets to witness how primal clothing is infused with the fashions of today.  Just last week (November 6th-10th) in Ghana, for the second year, GLITZ Fashion Week showcased over thirty (30) designers.  Here is the scoop on a couple that you definitely want to pimp your wardrobe with.

    1.      Afriqan Apeiron

This brand has not only managed to produce high-quality garments, but they have taken Ankara to the next level.  Afriqan Apeiron is known for SimoQin, “The Stretchy Ankara”. We love their Campaign.

3.        Maryzo Designs

Sierra Leonean designer Amizo is definitely that kid on the block everyone talks about.  Her designs are fresh and leave viewers wanting more.  Her models (including South Africa’s Sandra Ankobiah) hit the runway with burnt orange and black designs.  The contour pieces ranged from high-waist pants to ruffled-tops.

5.      Clemas Couture

Effortlessly dashing, this line gives us nothing but clean-cut suits.  Clemas also has attire for the proper Nigerian man.  We also love the white trench-coat.
