Known to grace the covers of Vogue and Elle ,walk the fashion runways for Christian Dior and Valentino and judge Canada’s Next Top Model, Yasmin Warsame has truly earned her position in the modeling industry.
2.Charlize Theron- Charlize Theron is the blonde South African beauty who is not only known for her modeling skills, but also for her acting. What we love about Charlize is that she has used her position to become a social activist and philanthropist for Africa. In 2008, Theron was honored by the United Nations as the tenth messenger of peace.
3.Candice Boucher- Candice Boucher is the blue eyed beauty that hails from South Africa. Interesting enough ,Candice never had intentions on becoming a model. She truly is the walking proof of a “discovered” model after winning her school’s pageant and a portfolio with a photographer, which was later turned in a modeling agency that caught everyone’s attention. To date, Candice has been the featured cover for Elle, GQ , Cosmopolitan and South Africa Sports Illustrated.
4. Liya Kebede- Liya Kebede is the gorgeous Ethiopian supermodel whom was discovered by by attending school at the French Lycee. Not only has Liya been the face of tons of magazine covers, fashion spreads and runways, she was also ranked #11 on the Forbes list of highest paid supermodels (what an accomplishment)!
5.Alek Wek- Alek Wek is the Sudanese model who first appeared on the fashion catwalks at the young age of 15. As a member of the Dinka ethnic group in Sudan, Alek and family members fled to Britain to escape the war in Sudan. It was there that she was discovered by a modeling scout. From then on, Alek was everywhere. From Tina Turner’s video, ” Golden Eye” to the catwalks of Chanel and John Galliano. Alek Wek has achieved a great deal of firsts as an African model, including being the first African model to appear on the cover of Elle Magazine.
