Although she isn’t an African designer, and this season’s collection isn’t even inspired by Africa, she has done so much work to empower women in Rwanda this year. With her accessory line, and her upcoming trip to Africa to meet with artisans and teach sewing classes Nicole Miller has been a busy lady, and oh did we mention she just showed her Spring 2012 collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week which is a task unto itself. The collection has a serious “Back to the Future,” ’80s vibe. I know there are a lot of people that want to forget the crazy things they wore during the 1980s, but Nicole Miller has breathed new life into the decade and is bringing back big loud patterns in a big way. She gave a nod to street chic and even cited her 15-year-old son’s skateboarding obsession as part of the inspiration for the collection. Each piece was filled with big, bold, bursts of color that calls to only the most daring and adventurous fashionistas to try. Take a look at the video above so you can get a peek at the rest of her Spring 2012 collection.
