NPR's Take on Sophisticated African Inspiration

Over the past year we’ve seen a resurgence of African inspiration in the world of fashion.  In the past, when a designer would say African inspired it often meant cliche animal prints and very literal interpretations, but more recently the term “African inspired” is referring to a very smart, and more sophisticated interpretation of African culture.

We have of course seen designers from Africa, or of African decent like those that have shown their collections at Africa Fashion Week NY, but even more well known designers like Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors and Diane von Furstenberg are feeling the African heat and adding a sense of African sophistication to their fashion.

NPR recently conducted an interview with Dolapo Shobanjo, owner of e-commerce shop MyAsho.com, and got her take on the issue of African inspiration in fashion.  Read the full interview here.
